We have traveled in buses almost everywhere we’ve gone and
some were long and some were short. The longest bus ride was twenty hours and
the shortest was two hours.
We have been on some very nice buses with bed
chairs and only three seats per row, and we have also been on a bad bus that
smelled, was hot, really crowded, the bathroom was horrible, and when we
stopped for a rest stop the “toilets” were a hole in the ground and there were
no doors.
The things I have liked on the buses have been the movies
and little boxed snacks with juices, little cookies, and a little bag of
crackers. I have liked most of the movies such as the Croods, Pacific Rim, and
After Earth. I have not liked some of them that were really violent. On the bus
from Arequipa to Cuzco the bus attendant put in a dvd of six really violent
revenge movies that lasted for the entire twelve hour bus ride.
The bus terminals in Peru were very loud because most of
the people at the ticket stalls were yelling places to go. In Chile they don’t
call out the destinations and they were a little less crazy. When we arrived in
Santiago for the second time, we couldn’t figure out how to get out of the bus
station so we decided to go down an escalator and then there was a giant mall
below the bus station. The mall was really confusing and we couldn’t figure out
how to get to the metro but we finally found signs for the metro station and
found it.
When we are at home in the U.S. we travel by car and
plane but here we travel by bus and taxi. I have liked traveling by bus more
than car because you can put your stuff in a place where you can get it, there
are little bathrooms, your dad gets to sleep with the rest of the family and
not drive, and the seats are nicer.
Right now we decided to rent a car for two weeks and
visit the lakes district but in all we have traveled 3,750 miles and over 100 hours
on buses.
Wow, 100 hours traveling by bus! You all have become quite experienced. You did a great job describing the fun and not so fun bus trips. I liked the pictures you posted; you and Bryce look pretty comfy.
ReplyDeleteCraig and I traveled by train in Europe and loved it for the same reasons - more relaxing, being able to move around, observing some beautiful scenery, eating in the dining car and meeting interesting people.
